Need Help with Financial Assistance?
SOCIAL ASSISTANCE
Also known as Welfare, Student Welfare, Mother’s Allowance, or Ontario Works - provides financial assistance to eligible participants for items of basic and special needs.
EMPLOYMENT INSURANCE
Provides financial benefits to most employed persons who have an interruption of earnings due to shortage of work, illness, injury, pregnancy or adoption and compassionate care benefits.
WORKER'S COMPENSATION
Provides compensation, medical aid, rehabilitation services, and pensions for Ontario employees injured in work-related accidents only.
MEDICAL/DENTAL
A variety of organizations may be able to help those in need with the costs of dental services, eyeglasses or prescription drugs.
LEGAL SERVICES
Help with the cost of legal services may be available through the Ontario Legal Aid Plan.
EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Emergency financial assistance for a variety of needs may be available through organizations, churches and service clubs. Contact Information Niagara at 2-1-1 or 1-800-263-3695 for referral to available options.
CHILD CARE
Assistance with the cost of child care in many child care centres is available to families who are financially eligible.
SENIOR'S PENSIONS AND CANADA PENSION
Canada Pension, Old Age Security, Spouses Allowance, and Widow's/Widower's Allowance is available for eligible individuals.
VETERAN'S PENSIONS
Provides services and benefits to veterans and their dependants.
TAX CREDITS AND BENEFITS
Tax credits and benefits are available to many individuals. Programs offered include the Child Tax Benefit and Goods and Services Tax Credit, both available through Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. Ontario Tax Credits, The Child Care Tax Credit and the Child Care Supplement for Working Families is available through Ontario Ministry of Finance.
FINANCIAL COUNSELLING
Help with financial and budget counselling is available through local community agencies.
FORM FILLING ASSISTANCE
Assistance is provided by
Information Niagara to individuals filling forms, including Old Age Security, Canada Pension, Employment Insurance, Ontario Health Insurance, Birth Certificates, Passports, Housing and Income Tax (for persons with low income).
DISABILITY BENEFITS/PENSIONS
An income/employment support program for people with disabilities who are in financial need.
