SOCIAL ASSISTANCE

Also known as Welfare or Mother's Allowance, provides financial assistance to eligible participants for items of basic and special need.

EMPLOYMENT INSURANCE

Provides financial benefits to most employed persons who have an interruption of earnings due to shortage of work, illness, injury, pregnancy or adoption.

WORKER'S COMPENSATION

Financial compensation, medical aid, rehabilitation services and pensions for Ontario employees injured in work related accidents are available through the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.

EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Emergency financial assistance may be available through local organizations, churches and service clubs. Staff at Information Niagara can help to refer to those organizations that may be able to help individuals in specific circumstances.

CHILD CARE

Assistance with the cost of child care  in many child care centres and in Private Home Child Care offered through Niagara Regional Community Services is available to families who are financially eligible.

SENIOR'S PENSIONS AND CANADA PENSION

Canada Pension, Old Age Security, Spouses Allowance and Widow's/Widower's Allowance is available for eligible individuals.

Provides services and benefits to veterans and their dependants.

TAX CREDITS AND BENEFITS

Tax credits and benefits are available to many individuals. Programs offered include the Child Tax Benefit and Goods and Services Tax Credit, both available through Canada. Customs and Revenue Agency. Ontario Tax Credits, The Child Care Tax Credit and the Child Care Supplement for Working Families is available through Ontario. Ministry of Finance.

Help with financial and budget counselling is available through local community agencies.

FORM FILLING ASSISTANCE

Anyone in the Niagara Region requiring assistance in filling financial application forms, including Old Age Security, Canada Pension, Unemployment Insurance, Ontario Health Insurance and Income Tax Forms can obtain assistance from Information Niagara. A small fee may apply.
