EMERGENCY SHELTERS

Emergency shelters are available for individuals in many types of situations, including those with serious mental health problems and abused women.

OUT OF THE COLD PROGRAMS

Churches in the area provide accommodations some evenings in the winter. Programs generally run Nov 1-Mar 31.

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

Transitional or supportive housing, provides short term housing, including a supportive component. For more details:

SUBSIDIZED HOUSING

Niagara Regional Housing is the organization that determines eligibility for and the provision of subsidy for rental units in the non-profit, cooperative and public housing complexes in the Niagara Region.  These include individual/single; family; or senior dwellings.  Individuals can apply to each specific complex or directly to Niagara Regional Housing indicating their location preference.

ASSISTANCE WITH SOLVING HOUSING PROBLEMS

Sometimes problems between landlords and tenants need legal clarification. The local Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing can clarify the rights of landlords and tenants. Other agencies providing legal advice and assistance may also be helpful.

SPECIALIZED HOUSING OPTIONS

The following housing options are specific to individuals with disabilities requiring some support.   Some individuals with disabilities who may not require as much support, or who may be able to arrange their own support,  may also find suitable accommodations in many of the buildings that are subsidized through Niagara Regional Housing.


DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

There are many housing options for those with Developmental Disabilities. Local Community Living Associations can provide information on the types of supportive housing that are available.
