Need Help with Housing?
HELP TO FIND HOUSING
There are several organizations in the Niagara Region who can help you to find permanent, affordable housing in the area.
EMERGENCY SHELTERS
Emergency shelters are available for individuals in many types of situations, including those with serious mental health problems and abused women.
OUT OF THE COLD PROGRAMS
Host churches provide a hot meal, companionship and overnight shelter to those in need. Seasonal from November 1 to the end of March. Locations change on a daily basis - call Information Niagara at 2-1-1 or 1-800-263-3695 for more information.
TRANSITIONAL HOUSING
Transitional or supportive housing provides short term housing, including a supportive component.
SUBSIDIZED HOUSING
Niagara Regional Housing is the organization that determines eligibility for and the provision of subsidy for rental units in the non-profit, cooperative and public housing complexes in the Niagara Region.  These include individual/single; family; or senior dwellings. Individuals can apply to each specific complex or directly to Niagara Regional Housing indicating their location preference.
ASSISTANCE WITH SOLVING HOUSING PROBLEMS
Sometimes problems between landlords and tenants need legal clarification. The local Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing can clarify the rights of landlords and tenants. Other agencies providing legal advice and assistance may also be helpful.
SPECIALIZED HOUSING OPTIONS
The Specialized Housing Options are specific to individuals with disabilities requiring some support. Some individuals with disabilities who may not require as much support, or who may be able to arrange their own support, may also find suitable accommodations in many of the buildings that are subsidized through Niagara Regional Housing. Contact Information Niagara at 2-1-1 or 1-800-263-3695 for more information.
DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
There are many housing options for those with Developmental Disabilities. Local Community Living Associations can provide information on the types of supportive housing that are available.
MENTAL HEALTH
A range of options are available for individuals living with serious mental illness.
PHYSICAL DISABILITIES
Specialized housing options are available for those living with a physical disability.
